Filk Festival

15th British Filk Convention
7 - 9 February 2003
Holiday Inn, Ipswich, Suffolk

Guests of Honour:
Teri Wachowiak (US) and Simon Fairbourn (UK)

The 15th British filk convention is "the Quinze Filk Festival" (say it like "the Cannes Film Festival" only different -- 'Quinze' is pronounced like 'cans', sort-of).

Links to previous British filkcons can be found here. A short description of filk, and links to definitions and other filk events, can be found here.

The committee for Quinze are Chris (Keris) Croughton, Hilary Croughton and Paul Bristow.

Committee responsibilities:
  Hilary: hotel liaison & publications
  Keris:membership & treasurer
  Paul:guest liaison & programming

HTML versions of PR1, PR2 and PR3 are now available. PR3 has now been published and distributed (to current members only). If you are a member of the convention and haven't received PR3, please contact us (contact details are below).

The hotel is now FULL. Barring someone not coming, we have no spaces available.

The hotel booking form is also available HERE. This may be printed out and sent with the deposit of £15 per person to the address on the form (note that cheques must be made payable to "Holiday Inn", not to the convention).

The programme for the convention is now HERE. Subject to change on the weekend, of course... It should work in almost any browser (apart from lynx, which doesn't handle tables well), if not blame Microsoft not me...

Membership Rates:

GBP 25 full, GBP 12.50 supporting/unwaged/child. 'Child' means under 16 at the start of the convention.
Prices in US dollars: $40 full, $20 supporting/unwaged/child.

The Holiday Inn at Ipswich is situated close to the A14 and A12 (see map), while being only a short car or taxi ride from Ipswich Station. It is convenient to Stanstead and Norwich airports (by coach and train). The hotel has 2 large function rooms (which are well away from the bedrooms, so no problems with noise), several other function rooms, bar, restaurant and health spa.

Standard room rates are GBP 27.50 pp twin, GBP 37.50 single per night. Children under 19 years old are accommodated free when sharing a room with a parent. Some larger ('family') rooms are available on request and for a surcharge. Note reduction in price from the previously quoted GBP 30/40.

Note that these prices are including breakfast.

Guests of Honour:

Simon Fairbourn is well known to British filkers for his rôles in several bands as well as the NMC. He plays a variety of instruments as well as being a sound engineer, arranger and writer of vocal music. Husband of Talis Kimberley, he is Corwin's mentor and now the proud father of Philippa.

Teri Wachowiak comes from Augusta, Georgia and is well-known amongst the filkers of Atlanta. A self-taught guitarist, she found filk through one of Leslie Fish's songs and has been hooked ever since. She was the unreserved choice of all of the US East Coast filkers we know.

(Preliminary information, more complete bios will be added later.)

We have t-shirts available, with the same design as at the top of this page (the treble clef made out of film unreeling from a can, with pictures of common filk themes). The price for Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large (S, M, L and XL) is GBP 10, XXL are GBP 12. Other sizes (and basic colours other than black) can be done to order. It is recommended that people either see us at an event or pre-order to collect them at the convention, to avoid shipping charges.

A preview of the t-shirt design can be found as a 92k PNG file here. All modern browsers should be able to display PNG format graphics. The image on the t-shirts is approximately 11" (27cm) high (some browsers may display it as a different size).
