2001: A Space Opera

The Hotel

Conthirteena will be at the Albany Hotel in Eastbourne, the same hotel that Decadence was held in.

The Albany and its sister (and therefore overflow) hotel are positioned right in the centre of Eastbourne's Grand Parade with a really splendid view. There is even an open air bandstand right outside on the beach! Those who stay up very late on the Saturday night may see a spectacular sunrise over the ocean at around breakfast time.

The hotel is just about the right size: there is plenty of function space (two large rooms, one small, and a private bar) and we should more-or-less fill the accomodation. The manager contacted us to see if we wanted to go back, so we clearly made a good impression last time. Those who were at Decadence may remember the 'Noise Limiter' in the main hall; unfortunately this is still there so far as we know, but the only times it was triggered was by the audience so it should not cause any problems.

There is a carvery restaurant in the hotel, but there are plenty of other cafes, restaurants and take-aways in the surrounding area. The hotel is easily accessible from the railway station, and Eastbourne is on the same train line as Gatwick airport.

The hotel contract has now been signed, and all we have to do now is remind the Albany just how much real ale and mushrooms were consumed last time we were there. If you are a member of the convention you should have received a hotel booking form in Progress Report 2, posted at the end of September. If you have not received PR2 please contact a member of the committee as completed forms need to have been received by 30th November 2000. Room rates (including full English breakfast) are £35 per person per night for twin and double rooms. A limited number of single rooms are available, but we cannot guarantee that everyone who wants one will get one. Please indicate on the form if you want a single or if you want us to arrange someone to share a twin. Details of other local accommodation (i.e. bed and breakfasts) in Eastbourne are available from the committee.
