16 Tones

The 16th Annual British Filk Convention.

to the bit about the...

Committee

There are many questions that seasoned filk convention go-ers may ask themselves... Why do I bother to book a room every year when I stay up all night and never sleep in it? Where can one buy chips at 3.30am? Why do all my songs so great in the privacy of my room and then so incredibly *nervous* in front of anyone else? And lastly, but by no means leastly... Why *do* the committees keep on volunteering to organise these things for our pleasure?

Well, here's the answer.

We're not quite sure either. We suspect that hallucinogenic drugs, masochism and blind stupidity may play a very large part in it. It may also be something to do with the fact that we enjoy attending conventions so much that we want them to keep running. Most probably it is something like that fog of forgetfulness that descends over new mothers to make them forget how dreadful labour and delivery is until the next baby is born...

The 16 Tones committee is currently made up of four (and a bit) willing volunteers:

Lissa Allcock: Nominal organised person. She once organised a Worldcon filking track, despite only intending to do the songbook. Darned good it was too - both the track and the book! She's also a librarian.

Phil Allcock: Surprise inheritor of the all-encompassing Captain Hotel Liaison Lycra body suit. Also responsible for keeping the convention solvent, although is hopefully not going to make quite the stupendous profit that we did last time. February's coming, and the Filk Fund's getting fat!

Annie Walker: Responsible for the (and a bit) part of the committee, owing to being pregnant during the planning process. Can vouch for hotel surprises not being good for a smooth pregnancy! If you see a tired looking person attached to a baby, that's probably Annie. Or possibly...

Tim Walker: Jointly responsible for baby production services to 16 Tones, and hotel bullier extraordinaire after Didgeri-12. He's mean, he's lean and now he's skilled with power tools, so they don't want to get on the wrong side of him!

So, that's us - if we can help, let us know.
